Hi, I decided to write this blog as a personal aspiration as sorts. I am not a writer but wanted to put down my thought's "on paper" so to speak. In the next few day's week's and year, I will write on my experiences as a new father.
First off I should tell you a little about the background of this blogs topic. My wife Michelle and I got married about a year and a half ago. It was a quiet, beautiful ceremony in Jamaica. It's been hectic at time's, but were working on it every day. Now we are a couple of weeks out from receiving our first child. It's a little more difficult giving our ages. we started a little latter than usual, I am 37 and my wife is 35. So far the pregnancy has gone well, except for a trip to the hospital two weeks ago, which turned out to be not related to the pregnancy. The mother and child are healthy and fine.
Talk about a wake up call though. As a perspective father you are involved, but not really, the best you can do is support the mother and try and make it as easy as possible for her.
On the day my wife had to go to the hospital, I was on afternoon shift the night before. I got home about midnight, watched TV for a bit then had a tough time getting to sleep. I finally got to sleep around 4 and Michelle left for work around 5:30. Just before 7 i hear a knocking at the door and figure if it was important that they would come back. So I ignored it, but they would stop. When i went to the door a friend of my wife's mother was there. She informed me that Michelle was being taken to the hospital and was trying to phone me for the last 1/2 hour.
Now you got to remember i only had about 2 hrs of good sleep, so i was exhausted. The day or two before my wife had her appointment at the obstetrician, he informed her that the baby's head was down and the preparation for the delivery has started. So i didn't know what was happening and could only suspect that the baby was probably coming. i was FREAKING out. We had not had her bag ready and were totally unprepared . It turned out to be a false alarm, but i bet you next time I'll be just as freaked.
Well that's my thought's for this week. hopefully wasn't too too boring, but it helped me to get it out.
Thanks for reading, cheers till next time...
