IT'S COMING part 1

It is Thursday August 27th 9009, and all along I've been saying that she was coming on this day even though Michelle was not due till Sept 8th.

The story as we can call it now, kind of goes like this. I've been on nights for the last two weeks and have a hard enough time sleeping as is. So on Thursday morning I got home from work, let the dogs out and played my scrabble words on face book. Michelle had already left for work by then, and as usual I had trouble sleeping. It seemed like it took for ever that day to fall asleep I finally did about 11. All of the sudden I feel this poking and in a startled daze woke up to find my wife standing over me saying that she thought her water broke and was having pains. This was around 1. You think you would know but it turns out if it does not break fully it's hard to tell. Now she was leaking and her shorts and underwear were soak, so we went on the assumption it did. Boy were we right. The pains she was having started again. I was like you think your having contractions. She was not sure so we noted the time and waited. A lot of waiting through out pregnancy, let me tell you, especially for the guy. That's about all we do. They were 40 minutes apart and for the next couple times the same.

You have to know that both are parents decided to go away at this time. Michelle's parent's went up to their cottage with her brother and niece, mine went to Sudbury to visit friends a four hour drive. So we were pretty much alone. Luckily we had a friend of Michelle's family to come and comfort her and help us out. Thank you very much Lori.

All of the sudden Lori's daughter calls and she has to leave to help her daughter with a personal problem. So the contractions start To get closer, 40 minutes to 35 minutes then the next one 30 minutes.

Ok just so you know we did call her doctor right away to get some help, so it's not like we were freaking out for nothing cause they pretty much said it sounded as if she was in labor and if the contractions got to 8 minutes apart then go to the hospital and they will check her out but if you go now you'll probably be sent home to wait till they are closer.

I forgot to mention that well this was going on my wife decides she has to have gooey chicken wings. After she takes an hour (ok I'm exaggerating) to decide which ones she wants. (Remember this tidbit of information for part 2.) I went to pick them up while Lori stayed with her.

The following contraction all of the sudden dropped from 30 minutes to 15. We were like WHoa. then the next one 12. Holy crap I'm thinking we better go.

So on the way to the hospital we go.

Ok that's part one, but just let me add a lot of pacing went into part one and i don't think I stopped yet.

Thanks for reading. Cheers till next time...

Baby showers

This week my thoughts turn to baby showers and the sentiment that goes with it.

This past Saturday my wife had her baby shower. Our mother's and friends had thrown it for her.

It always surprises me how many people come to these showers. Be it wedding or baby. Sometimes i am often amazed to find out who has came out to show their support. Lots of realities and friends most of which you would see maybe once or twice A year or longer. Personally if they don't want to bother just saying hi for no "special" reason, then I can do without their supposed obligations. That's another story for another blog. ( because of my extreme shyness and fear I am no better)

I was working night's that week so I was busy trying to sleep. (thank goodness) I promised Michelle I'd pick her up after she was done sometime after 4. anyways i have to cut this short as of writing this Michelle is going into labor. Needless to say we got a lot of nice stuff a lot of a little stuff Michelle and i had never thought of. So thank you to all.

Thanks for reading, had more to say but maybe next post, and by chance a first pic.
Cheers till next time...

First post

Hi, I decided to write this blog as a personal aspiration as sorts. I am not a writer but wanted to put down my thought's "on paper" so to speak. In the next few day's week's and year, I will write on my experiences as a new father.

First off I should tell you a little about the background of this blogs topic. My wife Michelle and I got married about a year and a half ago. It was a quiet, beautiful ceremony in Jamaica. It's been hectic at time's, but were working on it every day. Now we are a couple of weeks out from receiving our first child. It's a little more difficult giving our ages. we started a little latter than usual, I am 37 and my wife is 35. So far the pregnancy has gone well, except for a trip to the hospital two weeks ago, which turned out to be not related to the pregnancy. The mother and child are healthy and fine.

Talk about a wake up call though. As a perspective father you are involved, but not really, the best you can do is support the mother and try and make it as easy as possible for her.

On the day my wife had to go to the hospital, I was on afternoon shift the night before. I got home about midnight, watched TV for a bit then had a tough time getting to sleep. I finally got to sleep around 4 and Michelle left for work around 5:30. Just before 7 i hear a knocking at the door and figure if it was important that they would come back. So I ignored it, but they would stop. When i went to the door a friend of my wife's mother was there. She informed me that Michelle was being taken to the hospital and was trying to phone me for the last 1/2 hour.

Now you got to remember i only had about 2 hrs of good sleep, so i was exhausted. The day or two before my wife had her appointment at the obstetrician, he informed her that the baby's head was down and the preparation for the delivery has started. So i didn't know what was happening and could only suspect that the baby was probably coming. i was FREAKING out. We had not had her bag ready and were totally unprepared . It turned out to be a false alarm, but i bet you next time I'll be just as freaked.

Well that's my thought's for this week. hopefully wasn't too too boring, but it helped me to get it out.

Thanks for reading, cheers till next time...
